Default Barred Tiger Salamander ...

I have been looking into the salamander and have found one for sale online. Would they be ok in a large flat funerium with the right soil and moss, water dish and hides? I read they dont need heat source as room temps (18 - 23) C is the right heat for them so i wouldnt need a mat and stat at all? Also do they need some source of light or would natural day light be ok for the day and night cycles? cheers.

ok thanks. well i have got a 2 foot viv but its only about 1 foot deep and 1 and half foot high, could keep it in that i guess. do they go ok in pine wood vivs?

also, do they NEED a heat mat or is room temp ok cuz i read its ok without one. if i find out then i can order the salamander in a minute. its £40 delivered is that a good price? from exotic pets website. its a sub adult male im gonna order.

They require cool temperatures so a heat mat isn't neccasary. Also a 2 foot by 1 foot Viv would be fine as long as it doesn't seem to cramped.

I would warn against exotic-pets site as they have a fairly bad reputation and the animal might not be healthy. Just relax and take a look around at what's available, don't rush it, it'll be worth it in the end.

18-21 degrees C is a good temp while 24C is a max temp so no they dont need a heat mat any any heating is a bad idea really
