Exo terra heatmat........burnt through itself!!!

Today I Will be filing a complaint against exo terra.

Despite hearing a lot about problems with exo heatmats, I thought I'd give it a go, figuring so long as its on a stat it would be fine.

A Glass viv, did everything properly, divider between the glass and heatmat to prevent the glass shattering, and had the tank slightly raised so there's no direct pressure on the heatmat.
set on a thermostat, round about 80.

If I hadn't been changing my electrics today i wouldn't have known, Its only small but thats besides the point, and I dread to think what could have happened.

Its burned through its own protective casing.

this isn't the first time I have heard about this, I have heard of many a fire being caused by these heat mats, i personally use habistat, and so far (touch wood) no probs. good luck with your claim!

yeah this has been a recurring problem and while exo terra now claim the issue is sorted i never heard of any recall of faulty mats

Due to the serious nature of this,could you please let us have some more information and any photos if possible.

What type of terrarium have you?
Was it stuck to the outside or inside?
Did the mat come with spacers?

As soon as we receive this information and the mat we will give this our full and urgent attention.

It's good that they seem concerned, although terrible at least it will help them improve their products!
