I was not meant to be getting it, but my redundancy money came somewhat unexpectedly today. I was not expecting to be able to get one for weeks from now!
I went down to Penshaw aquatics to see Brian, he had 5 RETF's that had been in quarantine for a couple months and then put into their new exo-terra home. We turned each of the leaves over to find a small sized frog, the 3rd one was the only one who had his eyes open and he blinked at us lol so we chose him lol. I've dubbed him Dylan, and hopefully he will have a friend in a couple of weeks. I'm unsure of sex, so if anyone could hazard a guess from the pictures then please tell me. I can’t get over the colours this little guy has, they are so bold and where the green meets the blue there is a brilliant deep purple colour. He’s SO cute; even my mother thiks he is cute! and THAT is progress. I chucked a few crix in there and as I was taking a video he pounced on one and ate it! I'll edit all the video's I took later and post them on you tube. the vivarium is currently working like clockwork. The humidity is fine and the lighting and timers are setup just how Io want them. anyway here are the first few shots: ![]() when I introduced him to the viv he just sprang from the box onto a plant! ![]() at full res you can see the black pores in his skin - amazing things. ![]() I popped out for a few hours and when I came back he was in another area and changed colour to a darker green. pretty much the same colour as the plam plant. ![]() Caught him opening and closing his mouth just after he ate the first cricket. ![]() I only really have one question which is not answered on any care sheets.I guess it does not matter, but what time of day do you usually put the crix in the viv? |

cool mate, i'm there quite a lot. If I accidently trap any more crickets in the lid I might be there tomorrow to top up ha ha! as i said, you cant miss my yellow pickup, so if it's parked out side I'm there. Quite like this shot, taken before the cricket....... fell off the leaf, into the pnd and did not get eaten ![]() |

Hi...he looks like a she to me! Females tend to have more of a slant on the nose than guys...
Crickets are best fed to mine when she is awake and alert...it gives her a chance to grab it before it hides...For the first couple of weeks she was not eating alot as she was settling, but after that I gave her one a night, and now she gets 2 or 3 every couple of nights. This seems good for her.

![]() to answer your question before, they are size 4 crix, but to be honest, they are all different sizes. some are much bigger than others but they all 'look' the same. I'm gu-loading them with thawed frozen veg, they seem to chomp on it as soon as you pu it in. he is 42mm (1.5 inch) from snout to vent when resting. not sure how old he is likely to be at this size? thanks for the kind comments I'll keep everyone updated on his progress, and postpics as I go. still need to sort the video out too. |
