I didn't know you had to light up a horned's enclosure.
I thought they were like asian painted bullfrogs and tiger salamanders...they didn't need heat or light.
Ah well, learning something new every day!

it's not essential, but also I don't think it does any harm, it is needed however if you are using real plants. I only really use it for my benefit, it's so I can see my little guy!

i wouldnt go higher than a 2% uv for a horned frog, infact i wouldnt bother at all. especially if its an albino as it'll damage its eyes. temps need to be about 80-85F for horned frogs

well yes, that is true, using a high uv bulb for an albino horned frog can cause damage to their eyes. my horned frog isn't an albino and I only use a 2%, but provided there is enough ground coverage and hiding spots, there would be no reason why you couldn't use a 5% I keep my temps up between those gradients just using room temp and the light bulb.

i could put my newt in that tank, but i dunno if he can have 5.0, he is a taddeled tailed newt, and put my horn frog in the tank my newt is in, and that light is a high output aquarium light??
