Angry Is it water or urine?

When I get my white's out every so often for a quick check over (yes i use latex gloves dont worry) They sometimes spray liquid out their backsides usually all over my bed duvet! Fish sprung a leak last night right as I was putting him back, it went all over one of my mums hardback books

Also i've seen them do it in their tank. I saw Chips sat on the edge of the water dish letting about 3 squirts go into the water I had just changed .
Also one let out some squirts last night whilst soaking in the water, I saw some air bubbles and the water moving
It doesn't smell either...

So is it water or urine?

Could be water released either in suprise or as a deterrent to predators?
thinking about it, I think urine in frogs is released with the fecal matter in the form of uric acid..the white bit of their poo..

It is indeed water that they have sucked up their backsides from their water bowl. It's serves two purposes the main one being to scare people like you in to letting them go. When they become accustomed to being picked up they will stop doing it!

I knew it was a defense thing, but why would they squirt into the water bowl?

Its definitely water - frogs dont drink. They absorb water like a sponge through their skin and eject it like that - i suppose it is a tiny bit of urine but it will be massively diluted.

They do it to reduce weight so they can get away from predators faster, and also if they take on too much water they will just do it at random sometimes
