Unhappy Help with water feature

I just bought a Libel Xtra 350i pump from a garden centre. It looks of similar size to an exo terra repti flo. It came with 2 types of fountain heads. The manual says it has to be in 15cm-90cm of water. The pump itself is only 5cm tall so why does it need to be in 15cm of water? If i do that the pool will be too deep and my frogs will most likely drown.

What will happen if i only put enough water to cover the pump with?

my fish tank pump/filter is the same, it won't work in too shallow a water. even though it is tiny, it makes a horrid grinding sound if it's not positioned correctly. give it a try anyway and see what happens xx

Give it a go, play around with it and it may work.

I took out the cork background this morning, they kept getting behind it through a gap at the top, so gonna have to wait until they are bigger so they cant get through it anymore.

I bought a nice big piece of slate from the garden centre too. I poured boiling water over it twice and microwaved it for 2 mins. (hope this was enough and that slate is safe to use?)

I put that at the bottom of the tank with the pump and filled it up with 6 litres spring water, the pump worked and looked great with the fountain head on, didnt look very realistic, need a way to disguise the pump and fountain attachment.

I put one of the frogs in the water to see if it was ok and it was too deep, they went for a swim and then insisted on putting their head underwater underneath a ridge in the slate. I panicked cos they never came back up again after 2 seconds so i moved the slate and picked them up, they seem fine now though. So looks like i'll have to put this off until they get full grown *sigh*

I tried, I blocked it all with paper towels and they still managed to get through. They are determined to get behind it for some reason i really dont know why! I even moved the background up so the gap was at the bottom instead and blocked it off with a plant garland and one of them still managed to get under! They are sneaky little bastards designed to drive me insane! I had just changed the setup 2 days ago too

Could you not use silicone to seal the gap.

Yeah that's what I was thinking, silicone it and cover the silicone with eco earth so it doesn't look crap.

Why not install a false bottom....an exo that size is big enough..and it will safely increase the water depth. Plus F+C won't be able to chomp on the substrate..
