Default My fish tank converstion

Well I had a old 4 foot fish tank that I had used for my leopard gecko's, due to the heat mat being underneath it had cracked the glass, therefore could not be sold as a fish tank.

Had been sitting for a while and I thought I could convert it for my red eye tree frogs as it would be ideal height for them to climb etc. So here is what I have done so far!!

1. I dug out some perspex glass I had spare from my viv build, Found some wood from my neighbours bed slats and purchased; a hack saw, staple gun, sealant, varnish and mesh material.

2. I cut 30cm high of the perspex glass to fit the lower half of the viv.

3. I took the wood and made a frame to fit the rest of the tank opening.

4. I made a frame to fit inside the larger frame.

5. I then varnished both frames with a water tight varnish.

6. I took the perspex glass and sealed it to the lower part of the viv

7. I then sealed the large frame to the tank.

8. I took the small frame and covered it with the mesh material.

9. Then placed it inside the large frame, this fits snuggly and All i need to ad is door nobs, was going to put hinges on but I may leave as it had a tight fit to save using them.

I plan to turn it upright after I have let the sealant set and fill up the bottom with a little water and some rocks, will then add a filtration system and rain system, plenty of plats and rock faces stuck to the side!

to be continued hope you enjoy!

I'm planning a big dart frog viv (very slowly 'collecting' the bits, as I don't have the space for what I want yet!) but I'm planning on seeing if something like this

Hozelock Mini Auto Watering Kit Mini 15 2754

is adaptable or suitable for an automatic watering system. I'm thinking of this black external and on a timer and laying the microhose around the viv as I build (i.e. build it in an hide it amongst the expanding foam background etc) and place 'mister' attachements in the viv at various points.

Looks good to me.

I would say any small pump would work fine, you do have a high way to pump the water. I have a small pump and was suppressed how powerful it is. but then you would have to make some type of filter i.e. sponge filter.
You can always buy a small external filer/pump not cheap but very good at what it does around £40 you may need to get extra hose.

enjoy

Looks good but doesn't really say what you are getting i.e. how many nozzles what type of nozzles how powerful is the pump if there is one. some of these kits just link up to a outside tap. Try think of all the different components and price them separate may come up around the same.

cheers

if you are planning on using this like a rain chamber you are going to need a large powerful pump, ideal an external filter so that the water is kept clean.

looks good but how are you planning on stopping the water coming out from the mesh front? i am doing a similar project an instead of removing the fron i have meshed the top and am mounting the rain system underneath it

I am going to have the rain bar sit along the mesh front with the holes pointing away from the mesh to stop the water coming out.

At the moment the funds have run dry as I just purchased 2 males and 2 females to go with my other 2 so i have placed a tray filled with water at the bottom for easy cleaning until i can get a filtration system and branches and plants(will need to get more as alota space to fill!)

pics to follow!
