Remove the lid and make a frame to cover the top. Then get some runners and make a screen lid to fit. cover about 75% of the screen with a glass/plastic pannel to help with humidity. Then (if you have the tools) drill in some holes to accomidate some vents so that the viv has good ventilation.

A false bottom can be installed so that a water feature can be added.

i was thinking of cutting the front peice of glass off, getting some more peices of glass cut for the top(this would be in two peices as i would put a sheet of mesh all the way across the top), do you know what i mean? and then get a peice cut for the front to raise the doors of the bottom of the tank, so i could have a felse bottom setup and incorperate a pool in the base and have sloding glassdoors, basically make it into a glass vivarium, what you think?
also what tools would i need to make the holes? i could go and get some if you could tell me what i would need

any body who knows ANYTHING about setting up large tropical vivariums for frogs, your input would be greatly apprechiated, like i said i would like to know ANYTHING and EVERYTHING you can tell me, i have some ideas, but would just like to hear from the poeple with experience as i have set up live plant tropical tanks before just nothing too extravigent, i have seen some really good, very real looking tanks, they look like a segment of the rainforest there that good, and that is what i am hoping to acheive, with some help from you guys

thanks
will

Here is a smaller version of a viv that would be suitable for some dartfrogs!

http://www.reptileforums.co.uk/habit...rog-dwarf.html

Morelia - many say that they do not require UV but I know of some research currently going on at a very prestigous zoological establishment that would suggest that UV is highly beneficial to them. Based on their research (at least two involved are on the forum!) I would definitely recommend it. Put it this way, it can't do any harm!

Cheers

ok thanks, yer i will deffinatly use a uv tube then thanks, also your tank looks very impresive, will different species of dart frogs live together in a viv that is 40"L X 12"W X 18"H, as long as i dont over populate the tank?(it will be very well planted), any one else have any ides how i could make the tank better suited to keeping dartfrogs? and does anyone no why captive bred specimins a non-poisonus?

Co-habiting frogs is a contentious issue. Some species do ok together, others will fight and kill each other, some will bully and outcompete the others and some will interbreed producing (worthless) hybrids. You will have to do lots of research if you are going to co-habit.

The dart frogs in the wild get their toxins by eating ants and others inverts that feed on poisonous plants. The toxic chemicals are assimilated by the frogs, converted into a more potent toxin (upto 10x more toxic than the ingested toxin!) and secreted through their skin.

In captivity, the animals they feed on are not fed on the toxic plants and so they do not ingest the toxins and therefore do not secrete them!

For more infomation on all points (viv builds, suitable plants, cohabiting etc etc) check out the dendroboards

ok thanks for explaning all that i thought it would of been something to do with their diet, although i wasnt sure if they would of been capable of ingesting a toxic and secreting it without it actually affecting they themselves, can anyone post pics of their dartfrog setups and mabye tell me how you set them up?

thanks
will
