Default 40gallon set-up Ideas

Hi
I have been busy stripping down my marine tank, and now have a nice sparkly clean bare tank again Took ages
The dimensions are 36" long x 18" wide x 20" tall.

Although i was initially thinking of having Ornate Peacocks, I have now narrowed my choice down to either - RETF's, Milk Frogs or PDF's.

Would 3 RETF's be suitable in this tank? If so, what sexes?

Can any PDF's be kept in a group?

Also, i was considering using a mix of Forest bedding and eco-earth as the substrate. Would this be ok?

Cheers

Peacock's are awesome.

I'd say you're better off with something terrestrial with that tank though so PDFS, although they're not really a begginner's frog.

Dendrobates Leucomelas or Phyollobates Terribilis can be kept in groups and are a good starter PDF.

I have a tank that's a tiny bit bigger (36 x 24 x 24) and was planning on 4/5 Leucs.

would make an amazing hylidae viv if you was to put it on its end. Your other options would be certain Dendrobatidaes, megophryidaes, bufonidaes, bombinatoridaes or ranidaes.

what species of frogs interest you the most?

Hi
Sticking it on end would be a little awkward as its bow fronted

I like the idea of having something Diurnal, as everything else we have are nocturnal, apart from our beardy. It would also be nice to have something that could be kept in groups, so i could watch them interact. All our reps are kept singly so would be a nice change.

Its easier to say what i dont fancy Sounds silly, but i'm not too keen on fat frogs like the Pacman. Also not overly keen on Whites, white lipped and Reeds.

I'll go check out the others. I'm not going to rush it though As there is such a vast amount of different frogs, i want to make sure i get the ones that suit the tank and me best

thats a shame, would of been a nice starting point for hylidaes. most frogs can be kept in groups providing enough space is givem so thats not an issue, the problem you will face is going for a durinal species. most frogs are active at night apart from dendrobates, mantellas and atelopus (which are expensive and rare). the ideal starter frogs would be whites, vietnamese blues or fire bellied toads (which are durinal)

best thing is to look at the species you like and make a decision from there. will be alot eaier to set up and get advice when you know what you are looking at.

Looking at the different species, I think Ranidae interest me the most, and i particularly like the Mantella aurantiaca.

Has anyone kept these, and what advice could you give about them? i.e. numbers, best substrate, what % uv etc

Cheers

nice looking species that are criticaly endangered in the wild, however are avaliable as cb specamins from places like dartfrog.

A 2% uv should surfice with these, a bed of eco earth with no loose mosses such as sphagmum. with a viv the size you have a small group could be kept making sure females out number the males.

temps of around 70 and a high humidity
