Exclamation RETF is trying to eat but cant!

Tonight I added crickets 2 small ones and 2 medium ones and 1 small locust.
I checked to see if it was awake and I he was and very active hunting! I then looked closely to see all the crickets were dead on the floor! Then I saw the frog go for locust and try to eat it but then it didnt go inside it's mouth for some reason so he left it.
I added some more small crickets incase the others were too big and thats why he couldnt get them in his mouth. I looked again and saw that 1 of the medium crickets was all soggy and in a puddle of liquid as though he ate it and then threw it back up. Maybe the others were dead because he tried to eat them but failed and it killed them?
Atleast he is very active and trying to feed!
But he is looking very very skinny I hope he can eat the tiny crickets!

My advice is to stick with smaller food as you are doing. If the food is too big they will leave it, but as you say at least he is showing an interest. Make sure that you dust often mind cause he is still young and will grow quickly.

I would suggest 2nd instars. I am glad he is still with you. Hopefully he will be okay. If you suspect worms or other illness...vet on Tues as you said before just in case...

I forgot to mention that all the food was dusted with repton. He is back sleeping now. Hopefully he'll have another go later. It doesn't make sense as to why the small crickets (size 2) were dead, surely he could get them?

I left him with 8 small crickets and this morning there's 7. Why would he only eat just 1 after 11 days of not eating? Either he ate it or it died and the other crickets ate it.

glad to hear he's up and about and hunting! I had a similar problem with my whites a while back using repton, it was almost like they didn't like the taste, so I changed it to nutrabol for a few weeks to see if it made any difference and it did, not saying this is your little ones problem. Just and idea is all. I agree with lovetoads and think vets might be a good idea, he might be sick

stop dusting the food for a bit and see what happens ive had lots of different frogs spitting out food that was dusted and that was with nutrabol, i just think if theres too much powder on the food some wont take it, try it its worth a go

Thanks guys! One of my whites threw up some crickets that had nutrobal on them too. I thought this morning that maybe i had over dusted them and that must be why. Although the locust wasn't dusted and it he went for it but only brought it to his mouth and didn't actually swallow it. It reminded me of the time my tiny toad couldnt eat and it ended up being because he had MBD hope this isnt the case for my red eye! Will try again tonight he seems to ignore the size 2s and goes for the size 3s lol. He wasn't bothered by me watching him or using the red light or anything so he must be settled in lets hope he has a good meal tonight!

Have you ever tasted the powder? It's really strong and dries your mouth out. Not suprised some herps don't like it.
