RETF eggs/tadpoles!

Hi all

My RETF's have again laid eggs perfectly of the leaves above the water in their new planet "mage" viv!

Previous to now I have always removed the eggs and reared them in a seperate fish tank. But this time I'm tempted to leave them alone and let hem drop into the water below which is 12 inch deep and 25 degrees. The viv is built upwards from a large fish tank and is as natural as you can get.

Your thoughts please!?


Just wanted some other opinions from experinced RETF breeders (not the know it all's that seem to know everything about everything but don't or never had retf's!)

i would strongly suggest using a sepertate tank for 3 reasons.

1 the water needs to be filtered and changed every 2 days by atleast 30%

2 the frogs entering the water is not only going to risk injurying the tadpoles it will also reduce the water quality and the adults will stand a high risk of drowning in 12 inches of water. Any one with experience with A.Callidryas will know water deeper than the frogs hieght at risk is a no no.

3 25 is right on the top limit and although the tads will develop quick they will be week and have a high death ratio.

ideally you need a minimum of 30 litres for every 50 tads. what are you going to feed them on?

Also forgot to add that the inverts you feed your A.Callidryas on will also nip and crawl over the eggs.

Have you bred A.callidryas before?
