Do you really need heat?

Reason i ask, my reptile room (90% of it is dart tanks) is heated by 1 small heater, and then any reps that need heat are stated, mat'd or whatever.
Darts really dont need additional heat mat unless you in a really cold area. You need to worry more about the heat in the summer!

What does your viv temp drop to at night? Love the pics of your set up, where do you get your egg crate from?

coolest temp at night is 68F but i wouldnt consider using heat unless it got considerably colder than 65F.

They can survive cool temps MUCH easier than warm ones. using heat mats and bulbs is dangerous unless everything has its own stat - if you get one unusually warm day and the temp goes into the high 80s you WILL have dead froggies. If your room is usually between 70 and 80 you will require no heat.

Thanks, that has put my mind at ease. With the aquarium heater and drip wall it should have all bases covered. I am hoping to try the new Epiweb IIS system on the back wall of the viv so we will see how that works out.

The fans run for about 15 mins per cycle, and keep the temp at about 23 c and as said its colder at night, also the fans can be moved from under the hood in the summer to blow cooler air into the tank.

I think the common thought is that darts are a tropical frog so therefore they need tropical heat, but the reality is room temp is fine for most types, and my mat is mainly a safety net just incase of real cold night or the heating gets turned off

My darts live at room temp over the summer, their light keeps it at about 75f most of the time with a drop to about 65-70 at night. Round about this time of year I'll pop the heatmat back on to keep them at just over 70 in the day, it can get a bit chilly in my house without the heating on.

When I bought them they were from an enthusiatic but inexperienced owner and were at about 65f which the owner said was fine. However they spent a lot of time huddled up right at the top of the tank near the lights, once I upped the temps about 5 degrees f they came down into the leaf litter and started acting much more naturally. Now they rarely go more than 6 inches above the ground.
