is this any good for real live plants

That's what I've used for my planted viv's. For plants that like a bit more air space I've mixed it with some bark chips (like orchid bark chips but ones sold by rep shops safe for reps and phibs)

changed my mind might go for plantion soil with a layer of coco husk on top

Well some little houseplants, a fern and other random plants that have germinated themselves seem to be doing fine in my outside tank which has cocofibre ontop of a layer of pebbles....shame there's only woodlice and slugs to appreciate it tho =P
