I do use U.V myself, I have reccomended it but if the poor lad is scared his new pets wont last til monday without one, I felt he should know that the are optional and that Ipreferaflan shouldn't be worrying him like that over something that is STILL NOT proven as essential.
apologies if its a different frog, how long have you had it?

UVB has more and more evidence to suggest its necessity in amphibian husbandry. Yes a frog can still prolaps under uv but the risk is greatly reduced. supplementing does help to build d3 but the natural internal cycle is needed to harvest it, and this can only be achieved vi uvb. a recent paper also suggest that surfactant uvb exposure to adults is essential when attempting to breed. Marc from DFs experiment produced stronger, healthier off spring with a much lower death rate than the frogs with no uv.

I will say again, nocturnal or diurnal all frogs are exposed to uv and it SHOULD be incorporated into the vivarium. The rays will penetrate the canopies of the rain forest and burst through a sheltering leaf. UV = Healthier frogs.

Mine are kept at room temperature as well and seem quite happy...but I do maintain that temp with lights. I dont use heat mats, dont use UV bulbs (only the rainforest day ones) and my frogs are bright green, healthy, eating well, growing well and are generally active.

I am not getting involved in any debates regarding UV. It seems that if there was sufficient concrete evidence either for or against it would be widespred opinion to either use them or not.

I would suggest keeping an eye on your heating levels though. Many care sheets seem to suggest high temps and high humidity but this encourages disease and bacteria...they are quite happy at a day temp of 27 and night of 23 and humidity of around 75-80 (this may be higher at night)

The two most important pieces of advice I can give you are these:

DO NOT KEEP DISTURBING THEM, THEY CAN TAKE A COUPLE OF WEEKS TO SETTLE AND CHANGING ANYTHING AROUND, PRODING THEM, SEARCHING FOR THEM, OVERLOADING THEM WITH CRICKETS, OR CONSTANTLY TAKING PICS CAN CAUSE PROBLEMS...

AND MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A GOOD VET, CAUSE IF SOMETHING GOES WRONG IT GOES VERY WRONG QUICKLY.

Good luck and enjoy.
