Exclamation HELP! RETF Saline bath mistake

Another one of my red eyes has been sleeping on the floor not eating and is almost black in colour for the last 2 days. I heard that a saline bath can help perk them up so as I made a saline solution with 1 litre of distilled water and 9g salt ( i found the amounts on a website) I mixed it up and put a small amount into a dish and warmed it slightly and then put the frog in it, it started crawling around trying to get out of the container. I left it in there for about a minute or 2 when i found a post saying a 5% saline solution should be used to bathe a frog in, well oops i put it in a 100% solution the frog clammed up and went into a sleeping position in the water and its skin had shedded off cos slimey pieces are in the water. I quickly took the frog out and put it in normal water. I really hope my stupid mistake isn't gonna kill it It seemed fine afterwards it was jumping about like crazy and seemed to have alot of energy.

Your frog probably has a higher salt percentage than a pork scratching.
Hope he'll be alright!

...how is 9g of salt into 1000ml a 100% solution? Unless you mean after 9g of salt no more would dissolve in hot water?

a 100% salt solution in the case of 1ltr of water is when you can't get any more salt crystals to dissolve even if you heat the water to just below boiling point.

Then you have your 100%. From that you make your smaller solutions.

So if you want a 10% salt solution, you then take 100ml from your 1ltr of 100% solution and add 900ml of distilled water to that 100ml in a separate jug.

oh.. I looked up how to make saline solution and it said disolve 9g of salt in 1 litre of water. So i figured when I read 5% saline bath, you dilute it further still? Well the frog seems fine anyway and his bright colour is coming back slowly

Surely a 100% salt solution IS salt?
haha

yeah it's weird. We did that in our tests, but in a proper lab if you add salt to water until no salt can be added it's a solution of salt at it's saturation point but NOT a 100% salt solution, because that can't work.

A 100% salt solution would be me getting 100g of pure salt, and literally melting it into liquid form, no water.

My mum works in a lab though she's now confused herself!

She's going to think about how she does it tomorrow at work and then write it down.

Andaroo, my mums said for now, 9g of salt in 1000ml of water doesn't sound all that bad to her, so you probably haven't caused any burns from salt/dehydration or anything like that which a frog might get from salt.

To put it into perspective sea water generally has 35g per 1000ml.

OH ok might have it figured out. Salt and saline have got confusing.

When you dissolve salt into water until no more salt dissolves no matter what, i think that is a 100% saline solution you have their. So you probably didn't make that.

lol this is all lot complicated, but sounds like your frog is doing ok anyway so hopefully this isn't needed.

EDIT FOR THE FINAL TIME ANDAROO!!!

Ok you said you did 9g of salt in one litre. That 0.9 solution is what you use in saline drips in hospital, it's the same salinity as our blood. Obviously a frogs blood might be different but it's not very strong.
