Default Common Toad

Hi guys.
I don't really know much about amphibians but i found a common toad sitting on my step about half an hour ago looking very lethargic i presume he was either disturbed from hibernation or looking for a place to hibernate.
I watched him for a few minuets and he crawled under my garage door.
I decided to help him out a bit and put a cardboard box with straw and shredded newspaper in in front of him and he strolled right in.
I know this probably isn't suitable for him but there are a lot of cats in my area and i would really like to help the poor little thing.
Is there anything better i can do?
Thanks.

i'd let him go where i found him unless you want to keep it...as a pet.

you'll need a simple setup for that... they aren't all that fussy...

Its sub zero here tonight and he can easily get out of the garage if he wants to leave he got in on his own.
When i first saw him he was trying to crawl into a 1" deep hole in the wall.
I don't think i could keep him as a pet i think its actually its illegal in England because they a becoming so rare.

it's freezing there now?

he may be hibernating under the house... they will come out when you get a decent cold snake...

anyways, i'd google some info...

It is not illegal to keep a common frog as a pet, only to sell them. It is only illegal to keep the great crested newt.

ive got a little common toad, really easy to keep. but like you say he can get out if he wants to, so let him stay in your garage if both you and he are happy with that!

Keep him! Just don't alert the authorities... haha
I highly doubt it's illegal.
