FBT'd need a fair amount of water, when I first got them I had them for about 2 months in one of those plastic grey enclosures that just had a big waterbowl in it and they thrived in it OK, they seemed far happier though after I'd done my research properly and set them up a half/half aquatic tank

The one pictured is a 24x12 and it houses two. They are best kept in groups and grow to about 2.5 inches.
I would recommend 1/3 land and 2/3 water. They do spend most of the time in the water, but as I have different depths with the cobbles, see that one prefers to sit in water, head out, and the other likes to spend some time on land, and some in deeper water. They both chase eachother through the cobble cracks too so I would highly recommend these (I got a big bag from the garden centre for £5. Good luck and post pics!

Some people even keep them in mostly aquatic setups, with just a cork raft and some weed for them to rest on- but they are much easier to feed on land, and my lot spend a fair bit of time out of the water, especially at night.

Yeah, my land is on the left side and as I said earlier it is just a peice of cork bark hot glued to the background above water level. It is good cause it rounds down into the water...I set the feeding rock on it. When I had soil they just got loads of water in it, killing the plant, and getting the water filthy also...much prefer this way of doing things.

Yep. My setup is in an octagonal tank, with an island in the middle, with marsh plants growing in it. The land is based on a cut-down cricket box with aquatic soil (for the plants), surrounded by cobbles, flint and driftwood, and piled up with gravel (don't start the impaction arguement, ok? Just don't). I originally picked the rocks etc for their look, but the entire land area now has a thick carpet of java moss, so that was a bit of a wasted effort!
![]() The toads seem to appreciate it, anyway, and all the water they drag over the land just drains back.
