Here is a petition to attempt to get ALL British amphibians the same protection as that afforded to the great crested newt.

To be honest the guy himself admitted he made it while half cut and forgot Natterjacks...

Don't we think the people who work directly in researching and conservation attempts with these species have called for upgrades where proven necessary or potentially beneficial?

no
i think its a great idea
i see/ hear of people abusing and taking home amphibians all the time
although i believe that you still should be able to collect spawn and keep the babies as this will create a captive population inside of the uk

seems kinda over the top Im all for protecting and conserving native species but affording the same protection to all amphibians would be almost impossible to enforce not to mention extremely impractical

well you dont agree then, you cannot, collect, kill or disturb (including moving or photographing (unless long distance)) or disturb breeding habitats of protected species

so you wouldnt be able to, collect spawn, photograph, or move/expand/shrink a pond should you ever have spawn in it. like I said totally impractical

just on a side note weren't pool forgs recently added

As mentioned it's very hard to regulate...There's a place near me that advertises it has a GCN population and yet i've only ever seen one 'ranger' in all the times ive been there.

I think that educating about the plight of our native 'phibs may help, but whether people bother to take it on board is another matter. (Start young?)

Even simple things people do annoy me...example...early last summer, plenty tadpoles in the lake, but dog owners allowing and encouraging their dogs to go plodging in the edge of the lake, soffocating/killing unknown numbers of taddies.

And the year before, we had a dry spell and the lake started to dry up round the edges (where the tadpoles congregate)...there was me donned in blue sterile gloves scooping the dying tadpoles into the main lake and the looks I got from passersby, well if looks could kill I wouldn't be here !!
