We have never used it for a land substrate, but we have it in our water section for creating different levels and never had any problems.

I use it on land (although it is now under a thick covering of Java moss) and in the water. Amazingly, my FBTs have never shown any signs of stuffing themselves on gravel for a free trip to the vets...

Lol. I do have to say, when I've used earth on the land area, they do have a tendancy to drag soil into the water, and water onto the land. That's why I don't.

Or moss.

If you have black stones, why not get a black peice of slate for land? That would look cool.
