Best Marbled Newt Substrate?

So I've had my Marbled Newts for a few weeks now and I'm discovering their preferences. It seems that they spend 90% of their time out of the water.

Their current setup is a 45 litre tank with about 2" of water and lots of aquarium decor and cork bark to clamber on.

I'm thinking of taking the water out and having a mostly terrestrial setup with a little swimming pool.

What could anyone reccomend I use as a substrate?

I was thinking Reptile/tortoise Soil with a covering of moss?... but I've not much experience with amphibs so need a bit of help

I use a mix of orchid bark and leafmould with most of my 'phibs- but doubtless loads of posters will jump up in outrage and tell me they can't wait to stuff their faces on it and immediately peg it from impaction!

Whatever you use, it's worth having a drainage layer of gravel or clay pellets underneath, to stop it going sour.

ron, you'll kill them through impaction.
