Default My fire salamander had a baby!!!!!!

My fire sal who we thought may be pregnant when i got her a few months back, had a baby last night! i saw her looking into her pond and wondered what she was watching, when i looked in there was a perfectly formed little sal swimming around!!! a little worried about why there is only one though?? Anyone know if she may have some more or should they all come out in one go if they are there? if thats the case im worried she ate some before i saw? its still awsome though just to have one!!

nice one, they have them usually every few days over a period of up to 2 weeks, so you many get more yet, and the parents tend not to eat them.
the number they have can also depend on if its her first breeding or not, my female terrstris first batch was of 36, so not bad.
Be prepared for feeding the young, they eat a huge amount, i give mine whiteworms as a first food then on to chopped defrosted bloodworm.
Hope that helps
Any more queries= pm me
Ben

cheers ben, was very confused about the fact there was only 1! luckily he is only a tad smaller than my baby axolotls and i have to have a constant supply of food for them so shouldnt be a problem! will keep an eye out for more then and keep you all posted! (think my female sharp rib newt is gonna pop again soon too....babys galore!)

no mate....thought she might have done last night cos she was pacing about a bit and climbing the walls, but no sign yet. baby number 1 seems fine though he had some daphnia and a frozen bloodworm.
