Default Axo Food

Hi all
I have just bought 2 5year old Axolotls, the guy i bought them from fed them on raw chicken since he had them. I was wondering if it is best to carry on feeding chicken or to change to something else.
Thank, Emma

Hi,

No do not continue to feed your axolotls raw chicken.

This is not a stable diet for the axolotls.

It always amazes me the things that people feed their axolotls all sorts without doing a basic check up on their needs ive read of people feeding them pinkie mice!!!

The best food you can feed your axolotls is earthworms these are really good for a stable diet.

You can just dig up earthworms from your back garden as long as you no no pesticides are used on your grass.

If not you can buy worms in bulk from ebay that what i do ive just ordered 100 to keep me tided over for a while, i have a lot more that 2 tho,lol

If you cannot get a hold of earthworms you can also use bloodworms (fresh if possible),Occasional treats can be bits of beefheart and chopped prawns you could even feed them "feeder" fish but you need to be carefull that the fish are at least quarintined for a month.

Another stupid question. LOL. Will they take a little while to settle in an start feeding? They arnt really interested in food at the mo and they r just lying under a shelter. The temp is at 15 and iv tested the water and that is fine. Just not familliar with behavior at the mo. Im used to keeping marine fish
