A lot depends on what type of frog you are looking at.

its not a plain no but you have to be carefull, some frogs should never be housed with any other frog & some not even their own kind. so like fatlad said it depends on what type of frog your wanting.

I am not one for mixing them myself but no people who have & have done very well. you need to have the right conditions for all your frogs you house together. so if your going for tree frog stick with treefrogs so you can have a taller viv or aquatic frogs with aquatic frogs its no good mixing different habitats.
this also is the same regarding temps & humidity. Reed frogs seem to do well mixed with other reed frogs, i have seen fire-bellied toads with different fire belled toads. you need to do a bit of research to see whats the best frog for you & then see if it can be housed with anything else.
horned frogs & bullfrogs should be kept in singles, even breeders can find breeding these a challenge.
some are very territorial dartfrogs, cane toads & malaysian horned frog are just a few, these can be housed in groups but some experiance is needed before you could try this.

beginner frogs are:

cuban treefrogs
fire-bellied toads
horned frogs
whites treefrogs
reed frogs
green treefrog (european & american)
dwarf clawed frogs
green toads

but not all these are for mixing, its best to do your own research, i always advise people to try fire-bellied toads for their first frog, these are great toads very attractive & active. have a 50/50 set up mean have water half land. not too shy & are very easy to care for.

best of luck

thanks for your replies

hmm this is why i came here. the internet, although useful is full of contradicting information. i thought i would get it straight from the horses mouth so to speak.

ok....so obviously i have no experience wit frogs at all.....so a relatively easy start would be great.

now......i like the idea of an arboreal tank........but i also really like the idea of a nice waterfall with the lagoon- which im thinkin for the most part is more practical in terms of space?

oh my days i seem to be getting more and more choices lol.

as for the frogs? god only knows....im not gonna go crazy with it, maybe just sticking with one breed is the wiser choice?

one thing i would like is colour.....i love bright and beautiful. also i would likethem to climb a little so they dont just sit on the bottom lol.

sorry for all the questions......i just want to be aboslutaly sure of everything before i even consider starting.

If you want colour go with fire bellied toads plus they're forever active and funny to watch.

Hi again,

the most popular & in terms of beginner frogs Fire-bellied toads are a good start, i always say if you get fed up with these, frog keeping is not for you!
these are seen all times of the day which is a great thing as many frogs/toads tend to be shy, you also will enjoy watching these. these are an active frog & the korean form are the beautiful lime green with bright bellies, which am sure you will like.

if your wanting a treefrog i would suggest whites, these again are good for the beginner, but require extra heating & a much taller tank than the fire-bellied toads. these are primarily nocturnal so your not going to see them as much but are a super looking frog, big & dumpy is the best way to describe them, the colours of these can be pastel greens, blue & brown, all are very attractive.

once again good look,

but i also did like the look of the reed frogs, but they look tiny. it was about 3 am when i looked so really couldnt be bothered to research lol. has anyone any experience with these?

also does anyone know where to find the best guide to setting up the tank correctly?
