Ahhhhh welcome to the annoying world that is 'Bean Weevils'
They take escapism to a whole new level.

One: Switch to grain weevils. They're not as bad where escaping is concerned and frogs seem to prefer them.

Two: Leave a tub of black eyed beans in the room where your frogs and cultures are. An OPEN tub just to clarify. Your escapees will make a bee line for it, et voila, new culture (done this, works. lol).

Three: Resign yourself to the dart keepers mantra of weevils/fruitflies go well with everything. JD, Coke and fruit fly, nom.....

Other foods you can use include dwarf white woodlice, and baby European woodlice. The Europeans are really easy to culture, just stack some cardboard in a tightly lidded rub, keep it moist, add woodies....

Remind me, Ade- if we ever go for a meal, we are going out for a meal, ok!?

For once I find myself at odds with Ade.
I don`t have any probs with bean weevils escaping from containers.
But if I feed too many into a viv then yes they do find a way out, something they are good at.
When I used grain weevils they were a damned nightmare and I ended up binning all my cultures, and even months after I still found some climbing on the walls.
It`s your choice at the end of the day.
Ade is of course correct that there are several other food sources you can use if you don`t want to use weevils.

I'm not sure if anyone else has had this, or whether it's totally unrelated and a simple coincidence....
but since I started my weevils... we've had very similar insects, only smaller and less bulky (flatter), turn up constantly in the bathroom and top of the stairs.
They even have the same colours as the bean weevils, black with orangey spots...

Anyone else ??

I kept grain weevils for my darts for a while. The little shits got out of the their culture no matter what I did - any air holes no matter how tiny it seemed they would excavate until it was a larger hole. Hated them. Eventually I put them in a container that I hoped they wouldn't get out of but it didn't have enough air holes and most of them suffocated... I felt bad but ah well.

I found that mine would eat their way through the venting on the containers and get out that way.. Grain weevils do it too, but take longer. I also found that very few of my frogs actually liked bean weevils, most turned their nose up at them.

Hence I use the same pots as I use for fruit flies for them. As above though, you have to keep an eye on the vent area to watch for signs of holes forming.

Smile bean and grain weevil escapees

I had this problem as well, I have now solved it by using empty 2 litre ice cream tubs.I cut a square hole in the top and hot melt glue a square of stainless steel mesh onto it.I have none escape from my cultures now.
