Hi mate,

Just read through your thread, and looks like a decent size (length and width) However, like others have pointed out, you should re-think the depth, just over 2ft just isn't deep enough.

I know you've pointed out that you haven't had any problems so far that doesn't mean you won't get any problems in the future. Not having the depth means the Koi grow fat instead of long and in prop.

Just looking out for your Koi mate. Plus once the liner is in, you'll wish it was bigger/deeper anyway. (Mines only 10ft x 6ft x 4ft and i'm wishing i went bigger and deeper!!!)

Just think about it and do abit of research (Pond Life: Home) is a good forum if you want to have a read about it.

right were shud i startthe pond we have built and depth we were happy with 100% as again look at some of the lovly ponds on youtube they aint half the size of our new one we are builden but as my dad wont be builden a another in the future we have decided to skim another 6inch ruthly of the bottom so be around 40inch deep as we spent 280 for skips to get rid of the dirt and soil we are not going 2 get another but with takin it to 40inchs deep we can mound it up for a water fall we are havin built.so less exspence also our kio are top of the range and wudnt want anythink happin to them me dads pride and joy, also we do our home work on lookin after kio BUT you do get alot of jelous people just picken faults on nice things they cant own or afford. But we are greatfull on any advice we dont allready know

I wasn't saying you HAVE to build it deeper, i suggested it would be better for the fish and that there was no harm in having a read on that forum first, wether you believe me or not. Surely having a read and checking out if its good advice or not wouldn't harm.

I do hate the fact that you keep saying loads of people on youtube have small ponds so it must be fine, Just because someone else does something doesn't mean its right or correct...

Not going to say anything else relating to the depth to you as its clearly falling on death ears.

How can i be jealous? I already have a big pond that i'm still working on with 10 Koi, 4 Goldfish and 2x 18" Sterlets in...

However that put to one side, i think this project will be a good one and i'll continue to come back as i like watching projects grow. Is there an update with the liner?

Paul

Stunning koi you have there but I would rething the depth a bit more. We had a 6000 gallon pond was 6ft deep and had some huge koi in there 15lb ish was the biggest. We no longer have this due to the late loss of our little boy. May I just remind people if you have kids please make sure they cant get to the pond. Ours was 4ft above the ground and our 23 month old still managed to get in there. Anyway back to your pond. What filration etc are you going to be using?
