Hi Mate,

Changing the lights wouldn't be a bad move. I noticed you didnt state what Nitrate was at. Also, what Salinity is it at? Have you changed any flow recently, I.e. New pumps or aiming the flow in different directions. How often are you doing water changes, if you are doing alot, more severe amount of water out, this could be affecting him too. He may of possibly split, giving you two small anemones. But i'd imagine you would notice in a tank that has a built in hood (I imagine its rather small).

Kind Regards,
Scott

Not sure what Nitrate is. Salinity is at 1.021. I have changed the direction of the filter outlets but he was like that before. Doing water changes every 2 weeks. Have not noticed 2 but I am sure I would if he was to do that. I tried giving him a piece of smelt last night and he held it then just let it go not too long after.

Nitrate is a part of the nitrogen cycle ,for eg ammonia appears first in the maturing process then bacteria grows and eats this producing nitrite then again onto nitrate which is the waste product which you should take out with water changes. You want a reading of 10 or below on a marine set up orless ypu are keeping clams/scallops youll be aiming for over 20 but some thing do not like high nitrate levels especially anemones!

I would reccomend purchasing a nitrate test kit. Just keep an eye on him, try and not disrupt him or the tank much, apart from water changes. How much water are you taking out at a time?

Kind Regards,
Scott

That is cool. Thanks for the advice. I will pick one of them up as well. I have been doing 10-20% depending on how dirty the tank is.

First thing i would do is slowly up your SG over a few weeks to 1.024 - 1.026 as 1.021 is way too low for anemones. These water changes will also help to replenish any trace elements that may have been depleted and is a much safer way to top them up than adding specific supplements, which you really shouldn't do without knowing your exact levels and this can be tricky with some of the innacurate test kits on the market.

Make sure you have enough water flow as this is essential for a healthy nem, though make sure whatever method you choose that your nem cannot get sucked in!

Change your bulbs, 2 at a time over 2 weeks so as not to light shock anything.

Your entacmea quadricolour is looking a little pale which suggess it may have expelled its symbiotic zooxanthellae, which may account for it's shrinking. They should really be a darker colour with either greens or reds, but can come in paler colours so i could be wrong. They can recover from this but it takes time and good water parameters. I had some nice ones in the marine section i ran at the shop i worked at a few years back that were pale and bright pink and they divided all over the place until we had loads.

but before all that i would start by reading this:
