Talking My fishies :)

These are the pictures of my Plecostomus, my Comet, and "my" Fantail.
They are all slightly stressed out because of the nitrite levels which I am definatley sorting out, no worries I have been spending a LOT of money on other things so the decor is not the greatest, but they like it.
If anyone doesn't understand why a 5 yo fish is about 3 inches, visit my thread about my fish's tank and look at the pictures. That is why (so if anyone was reading that thread, this is the same fish that was kept in that tiny bowl)

Here is their tank!

She looks fin-less because her fins are white. Her back fin is actually fully up.

Spike!

My sister has a fantail goldfish named Hercules. I think he is mega-cute!

Her back fin is only down because--well, I don't know why, but it popped back up immediatley after I took the pic That thing at the bottom is an eaten algae-water.

Thanks I hope you like them She is doing very well in her large aquarium!

It's a nice big tank for them Lovely! I keep goldfish too, have you thought about getting apple snails or some gentle shoaling fish? Also some real plants?

Good luck

I am just starting out, I want to get the water and everything first. The pleco is probably not staying for a very long time but it's doing a pretty good job eating algae. I would rather use algae-eating fish instead of snails, they seem to do a better job and are more enjoyable to look at. I want some real plants but as I said I've just spent $50 on them (that's a bit of money over here!!) so I may or may not get to it soon. But I will eventually

Just some small improvements for the future

Glad that you're taking water quality seriously, most don't! *boring, over-asked question* Have you done a fishless cycle first?

Unfortunatley not, but I am going to start (by start I mean starting tomorrow :P) changing the water 25% 2x a day so that it can sorta cycle...they got really stressy the first day the new fish came in but have gotten WAY better.

Ah, ok, bad start :P

Though, with a tank that size it's gonna be a lot easier.

Make sure when you add the water back in, you use a de-chlorinator. And, of course, read the "fishless" cycle thread in the forums, if you haven't already

what a great transformation for that little fishy

i would rehome that what looks to be common plec asap, they are poop machines and can and most do suck the slime coats from slower moving fish (your fancy will be a prime target!) plus you have no bog wood in the tank, which is an absolute must for plecs as they need it in their diet. it will also outgrow your tank in no time, 6x2x2 minimum tank size for a common.

i successfully keep bristlenose plecs with my goldfish, they have bog wood in the tank which they graze upon every day, and they are fed thick slices of weighed down courgette twice a week. they only grow to around 6" max, and are much better for clearing any algae, ive had none since i added them to my tanks. though i would never add a fish/snail as a cleaner, thats what im there for with a sponge in my hand, i added mine as i wanted them as tank mates. i have a common brown, peppermint, albino and calico, the latter 3 are females and are in my 6ft tank, the common brown bristlenose is a great looking male who is on his own in the 4ft tank (didnt want hundreds of babies everywhere-enough of that with the danios!).

without bog wood and fresh veg in your tank the plec will slowly starve to death, and be even more likely to tackle the other fish for nutrition.

bless them, they look so tiny in there dont they bet they are loving all that space, awesome tank

Thanks, I am feeding him (plec) blanched zuchini for now until we can re-home. My mother is going to be pi55ed though seeing as we spent $15 on him (which is a lot here in the US for something that is just going to contaminate the tank and kill the fish) so hopefully someone else will want a big, aggressive poop machine But I have no idea when I will be able to. I am getting a little worried about him. Hercules and Lovie are inseperable and they have been trying to make them all "buddies" and the Plec is NOT keen on being followed around. I wish those fish would leave him alone but everytime I try to "move" them they go right back! I'm just waiting for the day when those fish cross the line and the Plec goes after them...that's the day there's an new ad up on Craigslist lol!
