Breeding Locusts
Old

Update - 4th June 2010

I converted the drawers, and all locusts are happy in their new pad. Still breeding them like wildfire...and theyve even bred now without a heat mat, I just put the lighting on all day, thats it.

Had a couple of mis-lays this time though, no chance they were gunna hatch...the other locust ate them as soon as they had been laid on the floor

Ive got tons of baby locusts...and I mean tons

Every day, theres more popping up through the muck in the pots. I gave up counting them when I got to 40, theres too many now, its more like a spot an empty space on the floor game.

On a good note, Ive got a new place for the locusts to move into, once its been altered a bit. My 15 year old trashed her 5 set of drawers last week...I threw it out, but then it dawned on me it would make a fab locust pad...it has loads...

Got up this morning to a shocking sight (in a good way shocking lol)

Out of 2 of the laying tubs, was a mass birth going on...like an erruption out of the sand/vermiculite mix little locust clambering over each other to get out!

I now have (at a rough guess) around 60 hoppers...with still more due to hatch out...and the adults are still mating and laying

17th March 2010 - Invaded!

Posted 17-03-2010 at 09:01 PM by Tarn~Totty
Ive been invaded Sometime during the night, got quite a few new babies hatched out...tons of them, so I havnt a clue now how many there are in total. The babies from last week are getting some colour to them now, instead of being green, got the black markings coming and a hint of yellow to them too

Really will have to think up another housing method for the locusts, as now the little hoppers are here, I cant empty my tank to clean it...If I stick the hoover in to at...

I have more hoppers I had a quick count up the next morning after the first batch...roughly 12! These must be from the earliest mating and laying I saw...one pair were alot more advanced than all the others and mated and layed about a week or so before the rest. I have 3 other pots yet to produce any babies, but with the amount of pairs there is im expecting loads more in the next couple of weeks.

I also started using some of the adult males as feeders now, made sure to leave...
