Default Breeding all year around

Just been reading a few threads i know that IF conditions are kept the same geckos CAN breed all year around.

Does anyone do this? Be brave and pm me if you dont want it on the main forum.

I mean i know it takes alot out of a female laying eggs so you must keep her fattened up.

Please do not shoot me down for asking this question, i have not bred all year around.

Do those posts not mean "you can get a female to lay eggs at any time of the year" (by artificially shifting the breeding season / removing seasonality), rather than "you can make your female pump out eggs 24/7"??

I'd hope keepers would be providing the correct heating / lighting etc year-round anyway...

So I think your question is "can you turn a female leo into an egg-factory by breeding her non-stop for a year"? I personally don't know of anyone who does that - a single breeding season usually takes it out of a female leo to the point where she's really emaciated looking; I don't know if it would be physically possible to keep getting her back up to weight. There may also be hormonal issues; it's possible that things kick in to "end" her breeding season if she gets too thin - you'd have to ask a leo physiologist that one though...

If you had a few leos then theoretically yes, you can breed them at any time of the year. People tamper with the temps a lot to help make them think it's spring.

Having seen one of Mujician's girlies lay 8 clutches between April and August, despite the male being taken out fairly soon after the egg laying started, I'd say it's not a good plan to encourage non-stop breeding. She's beefing up again now, but you could see her losing weight despite munching away on masses of locusts, waxworms and even a few pinkies here and there.
I think the last time she laid, I sent Ben a text expecting him to be pleased with more eggs, but all he replied was "tell her to bloody stop it!"

Right, there is no reason why your leo cant breed out of season but what youve got to remember is to give them atleast a 4 month break.
You can start your season in any month providing you keep the summer temps and light cycles up.

To breed a female all year round continuously would end up in serious illness or death in no time at all!

My point is why would you want to, appart from the obvious which is money making? It's potentially putting the gecko's health at risk! Surely as an animal lover you would want the best for the animal?

Not if your cycling and animal properly. If you were in a different climate ie seasons opposite to ours it would naturally happen at a different time.
There is no health risk providing you provide the right breaks!
