It depends on what condition your female is and how well you feed her between clutches, bulking her up with some calcium before and between clutches would be greatly beneficial. I think the most I got from one female was around 4 clutches, so I would think that would be around average, but I'd leave it to some of the full time leo breeders to elaborate on that.

it depends ~ first time females may only lay a few clutches (between 2 -4) while older females can lay as many as 8-10 ~ this is assuming that the females are given the good care and extra feeding, supplements etc that they require ~ not only during the season but also importantly well before the season as well ~ if they are mated whilst underweight, underage, ill and/or without good nutrition and care then the likelihood of fewer eggs and sickly hatchlings is increased along with the risk of severe health problems for the female itself

My first time female layed 2 eggs every 2 weeks for 6 weeks ( 3 clutches) then I removed the female and then she layed another 2 eggs 3 weeks later. These eggs were a bit smaller but the went full term.

I keep my males seperate from the females and only put them together for a short while during the breeding season and no my males don't turn nasty living on their own
As for will they know when it's time to breed ~ generally I've found that males are always ready for that ~ the important thing is only breeding when the females are ready
