Default Leo breeding

hey all. ok so i thought it was time to put 2 of my leos together to start breeding. ive done all the research and set up incubator etc.

so i put them both in a big neutral rub. the male went over to the female and bit her tale not a little nip but bit into her tale so she turned round and bit him back and had a little squabble.
at which point i separated and thought id ask the holy bible of rfuk folk.
Is this normal behavior? should i leave them to it? should i try again at a different time?
and yes 1 is a male and the other a female.
thanks adam

No it`s definitely not mating behaviour mate - that just sounds like 2 leos who`ve never met before having a scrap! Definitely seperate them for a while and then try again in a day or 2, maybe leave it a week. It`s not that they`re not going to mate, but their natural waryness of other leos has over-ridden their mating instincts. Also once he`s had a real bite of her, then she just goes into defence mode and I doubt she`d let him have his way with her until she`s had a chance to calm down. But now the ice has been broken - and they`ve managed to have a taste, smell and assertain each other`s sex, then it should go a lot smoother next time.
I`ve had the same prob with a few of mine this year - but I`ve noticed that it`s always happened when an inexperienced male has been used, the ones who haven`t really learnt what they`ve got or how to use it haha!!!

usually when you introduce the male, he should keep his distance, then vibrate his tail, this is him saying i'm a boy what are you. the female will do nothing so the male knows the other leo is a female. he should then go over to investigate by sniffing biting twiching and carressing, then if the female makes no move to tell him to bog off, he'll go about his business*ahem* and there you go, hopefully fertile eggies on the way!!

also consider intorducing the male into the females territory then it will smell of her and he'll know it's a female right way, and she'll feel secure as it's her territory.

it is normal for them to do some biting as they bite the back of the neck while they mount.

The female was telling the male she didnt want it.
Simple as that really, it was more than likely that she wasnt ovulating so didnt have the instictive breeding reactions.
