Hi, just thought i would add a post on here about eggs that you think maybe off or infertile.
I have been incubating my bearded dragon eggs and am on day 57 today. Half way through incubation my digital thermometer broke and so i replaced it with a new one and to my amazment i think my old one had been broken for a while. I had been incubating at around 2 or 3 degrees too high. I was gutted but hoped that i had saved a least some of them. Well about 2 weeks ago, the eggs looked fine apart from 2 eggs that was a lot smaller than the rest and started to shrivel up and dent. I added water and humidity but they never plumped up. With this i just thought that these must have been two at thew hottest point of incubation and had probably not made it. On the 55th day i candled the two but saw nothing and even considered cutting them to see what stage they had died and throwing them but i resisted
On day 55, the smallest shriveled up rubbishest egg you have ever seen burst into life. I couldnt believe my eyes when i got up and did my morning check and noticed one of the eggs wasnt there. i opened the incubator lid and saw a small hatchling lying on the virmiculite. It looked dead and still looked dead when i picked it up and placed it on the floor in the living room. We have a white carpet so its good to look at things on, lol.
Up it pounced from playing dead and made a run for it like lightning.
on day 56, the other crap one produced another baby and they are looking good, healthy and with no problems. All of the yolk sacks have been digested fully and they are ready to be transfered to a hatchling bin to start their lives.
Everyone please, if you think an egg has no chance, keep incubating until it is definatley off and in no way alive. I am glad i did or i could have killed two little dragons just from impatience .
KEEP THE FAITH!!
