Hi there, I dont know if your question has been answered else where but here goes.
I put a mixture of playsand and topsoil but playsand is ok on its own. You want the substrate to be damp enough that it holds a form but not too wet that she cant dig and make a tunnel or too dry that the tunnel doesnt hold (if that makes sense). As for taking eggs out I would wait until she has buried them and patted the substrate down. Take her out and give her a bath, they get dehydrated and will drink loads after laying. After doing that you can sort your eggs out, do this as carefully as you can trying not to turn the egg. Liz
