Default another incubator query...

straight forward really. If i was looking to keep the costs down, what am i looking at paying for an incubator?

i know i can use a poly box, i got one already. its got a 10 degree fluctuation though, hence the reason for wanting a "proper one"

i cant really do the whole fridge thing, my house tiny, actually its TINY!! so a massive fridge conversion is no good.

how big and good are those hovabators and what about the herp nursery II that seems fine?

Herp nursery is spot on, I honestly wouldn't look for a short cut when it comes to eggs. Invest in a good quality incubator instead of chancing the ploy box.

Ive got a 15 year old hovabater that holds a lot more eggs than the herp 2 Ive got, and is just as reliable,
Ive also a homemade one from a poly fishbox 2ftx15inx12in with a heat mat inside on a good mat stat, the mat is below a double slatted shelf the lower shelf has a tray with moist moss on, the eggs go on the top shelf in their tubs with vermiculite as you would normaly, and this one works better than the other two.

I agree, Homemade incubators are the way forward, and plus the herp nursery makes alot of noise.

An incubator is just a convenient box shape that will hold the required temperature over a number of weeks. If it's well insulated the temperature is likely to be more consistent and it will use less electricity. A decent sized heatmat and a pulse or dimmer stat will work well as the heat source. Large incubators may benefit from an internal fan to prevent temperature gradients. I've used a 3ft viv lined with insulation and a poly box. Both gave very good results. You definately don't need anything sophisticated or expensive for a few clutches.
