Default Incubator query

I have a Brinsea Octagon20 incubator which I used to use for incubating chick eggs. I was wondering if I could adapt this to incubate reptile eggs (specifically corn snake eggs). It has compartment for water and a heater which is adjustable. There is also a fan.

I am planning in advance, so any advice would be welcome.

Default Oct 20?

Hi there - I have an octagon 40 and an Rcom 20 which I use for hatching chicks but was told the oct wouldn't go down to -30 degrees needed to hatch the snake eggs - I never tried this as I knew the Rcom 20 would with loads of tubs for extra humidity. Givethe oct 20 a try, but it may not let you go down that low with the temp. As far as the fan - the Rcom has a fan too and we put our first 10 corn snakes eggs in an indian takeaway dish with holes in, the eggs half buried in vermiculite and 9 are looking good to hatch any day!! Good luck - they're my daughters snakes but we're all hooked now!! - its great!!

I use a hova-bator for duck eggs and corn snake eggs (not at the same time)so not sure about yours but I have heard that its better to turn off any fan if you can(and turner if there is one). If not I would use a plastic tub with no holes so that the substrate can't dry out so quick. Then just make sure the temperature can go down as low as needed and stays steady. Also make sure that you check on the humidity inside the tub regularly and add a damp tissue if needed. I have never had to have water inside the incubator outside the tub, but I do not have a fan either.
Hope that helps
