Here is a link to a morph listing:
Morph List - World of Ball Pythons According to it, there are 437 morphs found. There are something like three dozen mutant genes in the ball python. Most of the morphs are combinations of mutant genes. Depending on how much work you are willing to do, you can combine nearly anything with anything else. But the more mutant genes in the combination, the longer it takes. A heterozygous snake has a gene pair that contains two genes that are not the same. Usually, but not always, a heterozygous gene pair contains a mutant gene and a normal gene. From a mating of two like heterozygous snakes, the expectation is that 1/4 of the babies have two normal genes, 1/4 of the babies have two mutant genes, and 2/4 of the babies have a mutant gene and a normal gene. What the babies look like depends on whether the mutant gene is dominant, codominant, or recessive to the normal gene. I would suggest that you read the "Questions you were afraid to ask" sticky thread in the RFUK genetics forum. |
