I know two very reputable snake breaders one in the states and one in the uk. Both agree that you can pop a snake from hatchling to adult without any problems. However trying to pop an adult can be difficult due to the muscle strength on the back end being too strong to overcome which is why its not recommended and could also lead to inaccurate sexing as if the male snake does resist it can appear like a female. I you are an inexperianced at popping it is advisable you get someone to show you how to do it first time and use a hatchling.

Having said that some adult males will not give any resistance to popping especially during this time of year when females nearby are coming out of brumation.
