Default More than one male too one female

I dont know if this is an old wives tale but if a woman sleeps with more than one man the sperm will actually kill eachother off. I did hear this a long time ago so might have got a few facts wrong.

But if thats true to humans then is it true to snakes also. As I have had more than one male lock with my female (royals) and was wondering if she'll actually get pregnant due to different baby gravey from differnt males?!?!

the sperm wont kill each other, quite the opposite infact.

2 males can impregnate one female and you can get split clutches for example, if you mated a Pastel male and a Spider male to a normal female its possible to get Pastel, Spider and normal offspring

WOW thats pretty cool to hear!! Guess the sperm killing eachother off till one strain remains must be some evolutionry thing in humans, survival of the fittest....or just another way for my mum to tell me no to sleep around with the village bicycle LOL

I love the part where he opens the egg and is completely dumpfounded!!

On another note, is it ok to cut/slit eggs like that? or is it better to let nature take its course and let the snake slit the egg itself from the inside?

Cool vid

Immunity can do unexpected things, but don't count on sperm from different donors killing each other off. There have been instances of human fraternal twins with different fathers.

Some royal python breeders cut the eggs, and others do not. Each camp has its own reasons. Both ways work. While I have never bred royals, I have bred corn snakes and other species. I have never cut those eggs and see no overwhelming reason to cut royal eggs. IMO, the snakes are better at cutting their way out than I am.

Would this be the same for leo's as they store the sperm also?

There are arguments for and against it.

Most people that do it will tell you its to reduce the chance of the snakes drowning if they cant get out on their own.

The same people will also tell you that they do it because they cant wait to see whats in the egg.

I cant honestly see a problem with people doing it if the eggs are on or after their hatch date but when people do it upto 10 days early I think its just wrong.

Sperm from different fathers does not kill each other off in humans either! Thats definitely an old wives tale. Though it would be an interesting form of contraception - oh dear, I've just had unprotected sex -I'd better go and do it again with someone else so I dont get pregnant
