Default Rehoming fees....

Right, can somebody explain something to me....

Rescues rehome animals and ask for a rehoming fee... that is standard and yep self explanitory.

But can somebody please explain to me why, when people are giving something away, other people say they should ask for a rehoming fee?
If you're a private keeper and taking money for something then you're selling it.. money is changing hands for goods.

Just one of the many things that annoy me about some people that i'm unfortunate enough to share the planet with.

I suppose there are muppets out there that will take anything if its free .. in fact i know there are.. if someone is geuinely interested they dont mind paying something towards the animal ..also stops these bloody bogus "rehoming centres" from taking in free rehomes then selling them on the classifieds!!

I would consider anything free but I'm no muppet.
Just there to give an animal a good home.

I think some of the 'rehoming fees' are more than shop prices in some cases.

what i wil accept is a small donation IF that lizard has had vet treatment , one rescue last yr cost me in vivarium set up and vet fees about 450 quid!!!

I prefer donations in equipment such as hides or bowls etc not cash.. but a few people have sent me something towards a sepecific animals vet fees before which i have used directly for vet bills. when im given something from a mate etc like.. here is a tenner towards so and sos treatment then i use it for that and nothing else.

To be honest ive never charged a direct rehome fee.. ever

but then every rehome ive ever done has been within a circle of friends i know or people i trust.. im not a rescue.. but i do rescue animals i have experience with.. i wont take any rep. and i wont take reps i dont know anything about or have absolutely no experience with

i then rehome to people i know.. or friends of friends for free

but yours is a sancturary..

this is the kind of thing i mean

http://www.reptileforums.co.uk/lizar...t-rehomed.html

"i'm giving it away for free. i've tried selling but nobody was interested"

then people tell him to ask for a rehoming fee??? like it'd make any different, he couldn't sell it so having to give it away. If he took a rehoming fee he'd be selling it because its a pet that he's getting rid of.
