Paypal is supposed to have its own insurance they are not legally allowed to take money from your account that you have not sanctioned.

You have to claim as the sender but if you only have proff of posting you can only claim something like £27.50 may be slightly different amount now.

I always send everything recorded delivery with insurance these days and always over insure as well as PO have screwed up on me so much.

Its highly likely PO has screwed up but this person should not have launched a paypal dispute straight away if you were being reasonable like you state.

I would also get in touch with your bank and put a dispute with them stating paypal is illegally taking money from your account as you have not approvved it and they will claim the money back from the person for you

It just strikes me as a little bit weird that I sent parcels to another person the same time as I sent Reptile_heavens and they have recieved there's fine so it makes me think that Reptile_heaven has recieved the bags and want the money and the bags
hi
i always send recorded delivery now as if anyone makes a claim you will always win
there are some people on here that check to see if the item has been sent recorded or normal, and if normal they know they can claim there money back and keep the item at the same time.
i dont see why people would want to do it over afew quid

I only had £10 in my paypal account so they have taken that and it now says -£30 so they have either taken it out of the bank account which is on there or they are waiting to see how the claim pans out and then they will take it.

After all of this i am definaly going to be complaing to paypal about the way they run there company.

The funny thing is I dont usually accept payment through paypal I almost always insit on a postal order or cheque and this certian buyer said she could only use paypal. How convenient.

Thanks for all your good advice ect I will let you no how this pans out

Paypal can't and won't take the money out of your bank account. They'll leave you in a minus balance so you owe Paypal the money; if you lose the claim and don't bring the balance up to £0.00 the debt is transferred to Paypal who'll send you emails etc and possibly debt collection notices.

Pretty sure there's a thread on here about somebody who had a Paypal dispute and they were moving house. Paypal awarded against them, put them in a minus balance and then sent debt collecting letters to claim their money.

Although after re-reading, i'm not sure why a complaint could be lodged against Paypal.
Proof of postage if not sent recorded will be a receipt and from what i remember it doesn't have the address printed on it, sometimes the person at the post office will write the house number and postcode on - something anybody could do.

As far as i'm aware it is the sellers responsibility to ensure goods are delivered to the recipient and it's still their responsibility until the buyer has taken delivery.. If the seller doesn't take the right steps to cover themselves then they're liable to lose out..

I once had two packages sent to me by my mum, from the same post office at the exact same time and only one arrived, work that one out...whether they are ripping you off or not i don't know but it could well be down to royal mail losing the parcel, they do it a lot, which is why i always use recorded delivery at the very least so i'm covered.

PayPal can, will and do take money from bank accounts or linked card accounts.
But it depends on the type of account you have with paypal.
IF your account is funded by a bank chequing account they wiil simply take any negative balance from that account, but only IF you have agreed to this in the conditions.
There are seveal levels of PayPal account, mostly based on how you put money in to the PayPal account.
PayPal prefer for Ebay sellers to have "automated" accounts where any negative balances are taken from bank accounts or debit cards etc.
So like I say it depend on what you have agreed too and the level of PayPal account you have.
Stephen.

Why would you send goods to a buyer, that paid via Paypal (the most notorious payment method around as far as sellers go), and not use Rec. delivery as a normal practice???

We would all like to believe that everyone is trustworthy etc but sadly its not the case. Paypal have been doing this for years. I had a very small side business/hobby selling imported hip-hop CD's and DVDs both through my own website and Ebay.. and I got stung by the Paypal claims a couple of times.. its a lose-lose situation, you lose your goods and you lose money. 99% of the time you will not win a claim unless you have tracking for your item/s.

From then on in, everything I sold over £10 went Recorded..might be a slight inconvenience to the buyer dep. on circumstances, but thats a small price to pay for peace of mind.

Incidentally, I havent used Paypal since and dont intend to. There are many other online payment facilities which also happen to have a degree of seller protection aswell.
