I think half of it is people just want to brag about it. 'Uuuh yeah, it's a Bob Clark snake' instead of 'Yeah its a beauty, got it off someone on RFUK'.

They think its makes it more special, but you know what they say about fool's and their money

Im not understanding this are you upset at yours not selling yet others are selling theirs or that Bob CLark can get more for his?

Think its ultimately down to a trust thing and knowing where they have come from, if its states a certain breeder you have a certain confidence in morphs etc otherwise its hit and miss.

You may also have been selling them too cheap which made people wonder about the morph.

For instance had a mate with an immaculate camper and tried to sell in my mind far too cheap. It didnt sell. I told him to double price and within a week he had 14 people fighting over it!

Go figure....me I would have haggled him down from original price

I think this is a round about way of scuppering someone elses for sale thread and as such is against the rules .

I presume by like minded community the OP means lets all sell each other cheap snakes hence bankrupting all proper rep businesses.

Then where will we all visit on a sunday and get our day to day sundries from.??

I don't really go with the "brand name" thing myself - the morph pythons I have are because they were the genetics I wanted at the prices I wanted to pay (and they're attractive animals to boot). Sure, they came from a well-known breeder. I might mention to a buyer of my hatchlings that the hatchlings' parents were from So-and-So, and if they wanted an idea of what other adults of the morph or combo might look like, to check out So-and-So's gallery. But I didn't buy them *just* because of who they came from.

I like my Lexcorn-bred corns.
I LOVE my JaneW bred pair of corns.
And my Snakebreeder lavender girl is beautiful.
But then, so is Contrasts Arsenic, my ownbred girlie

That said, I must admit that the White Phase and Lavender Phase animals on the advert in question... they are beautiful animals. Some people may be seriously interested because there's decent-looking photos that show the size of the animal compared to a person.

Heck, if I had any kind of guarantee that white phase would absolutely not get ANY bigger - that he'd stay that size forever and ever amen - I'd be tempted, because that's just the right size for a "big" snake for me!

Good photographs - and photos that show off the best points of the animals, including actual size - can make a world of difference to selling the animals in question.

not at all, if you re-read it, im saying that people are almost trying to beat each other into submission on the prices they want for their animals, im all for getting a good price that reflects the true value of the animal but most people want something for next to nothing, im saying we should pay each other sensible money for our animals.
With regards to your comment about me saying that we should all buy cheap animals off each other and this would ruin "proper rep businesses" and then saying that the retailer will no longer be there, i think you have totally missed the point, bob clark is a breeder not a retailer, people buying direct from a breeder affects retail trade in itself! why would someone buy from a shop with their mark up if they can buy direct from a breeder, you contradict yourself by saying we should support a breeder but by buying from them you are affecting the sales of the retailers you are so quick to defend.
Btw i am a reptile retailer and nothing bugs me more than the whole "its not worth that, i can pick it up at the shows or off the classifieds" attitude and this is on low end stuff, retailers are made out to be greedy, we clearly have to make a mark up or we have no business.

Im saying it makes no sense, i struggled to sell my animal, i didnt put it up cheap originally, it put it up for good money that i felt fairly reflected the breeding age and size of the animal, people quite blatantly told me i was asking too much, i actually asked what i had paid for it a year before after doubling the animals size and getting it to breeding age, i had to drop the price substantially before i could get any takers.
Im not whinging about not being able to sell my own animal, i gave another point of reference and there are many more instances. The one female should have a value that far exceeds that of a breedable male and yet people dont seem to want to part with their cash, but a big breeder puts something out there that in comparison is not particulaly special and people are chomping at the bit.

Perhaps you were selling at wrong time of year or lots of people had just sold similar snakes there are so many variables.

You have a good point, but lets remember this is classifieds...the home of picture hunters and time wasters. Hundreds will PM Bob, but only a tiny percentage will actually commit to a purchase.

Me personally, I don't care if the animal is bred by the snake god himself or a local breeder.

lets be clear on this, im not bad mouthing bob, i hvae bought snakes from him in the past and would buy from him again.
Hes now updated the ad and i think the purple is a stunner and the price tag is not unjust.
I dont think that he over prices his animals just that us mere mortals cant get anywhere near that kind of price for a white or lavender phase, even if the animal was bred by him in the first place, oh well!
