here is the classifieds thread in question
http://www.reptileforums.co.uk/lizar...-kingston.html This crested gecko arrived with me last weekned bought and paid for by me. I bought it from Sarah-jayne a forumite on here whom I genuinely thought I could trust. We had chatted on msn and I had explained I would like to use him for breeding to two dalmation females I have in 2010. She mentioned he was quite slim for breeding and I explained i would feed him live and not use him for breeding till next year when hopefully his weight would be acceptable. I paid 150 for him and the viv. I was happy to do this as far as I knew Saray-jayne was very trustworthy. As soon as the crested gecko arrived myself and my partner Scott noticed he had two different coloured eyes. At first we though it looked nice. The courrier also commented on it. I let the seller know immediately and she said it must have happend in transit. However i asked her to send me numerous pics of this gecko and on further insepction the eyes looked quite different in the pics she sent. She said she felt awful and was upset. I explained that i was also quite upset but would hang fire to see what my vet said today. here is the thread started by me about the eye http://www.reptileforums.co.uk/lizar...ing-wrong.html Ok so tonight ( around 10 mins ago i spoke to her over MSN) and explained the vet has said the eye has different pressures and MAY cause issues with balance or sight and also possibly its bene a birth defect. I explained he will need further check ups and I was unhappy with this as it was obvious from the pics it was there way before I got him which she herself has admitted not noticing. She has told me it is now my responsibility and has said she will not refund anything more, she did give me the vet consultation fee for today which was a positive thing and I would not want to leave this out of the information I am giving. She also said tonight that the reason she sold was he got no attention except feeding and she needed to raise funds for her move down south and therefore cant give me a refund or anything more to vets costs. I asked her how she would feel if this happened to her, for example if she bought a car with faulty breaks. She said that would be her responsibilty to check faults and let the seller know. When I agreed and explained I did this with her and this crested gecko about the problem withj the eyes, within 30 mins of having the gecko and told her right away on the same day she sent it to me....she said I was annoying her and blocked me via MSN. Can anyone tell me if I have reacted unfairly. I feel a further refund is the least Sarah-jayne should offer. The gecko will need at least one more appointment at the vet . Another £35. Which i feel is the absolute least she should offer me. She told me to just sell the gecko and recoup my losses, which i feel is very unfair as i would never sell a crestie with a defect that may need special treatment. I feel since I let her know immediately and she agreed she had missed the issue with the eye she owes me at the very bare minimum the other £35 for the next consultation. She has 100% refused to refund me for him. I have informed her this thread will be here for her to reply and place any comments she wishes to on the thread. I spent £150 on the crested gecko and tank and £40 on a courrier. thanks for any input

Totally agree. But its not easy when a gecko you want is so far away. I think im just upset that when i explained tonight things didnt go perfectly at the vet and I felt something more financially was needing to be offered since he would need at least ONE more vet appointment to check if it is trauma or if the eye worsens in the next few weeks.. and if not then a full refund , she then proceeded to tell me I was annoying her and blocked me on msn.. before this she has been chatty pleasant and ive even given her advice in past about her cresties. If i had made a mistake like this i would bend over backwards to fix it with the buyer. Not noticing something because you never handle it is not an excuse. if you are selling an animal you check it over before you sell and I let her know within 30 mins of me receiving the crested gecko and made the first vet appointment I could.

She told me it was my responsibility to notice it .. which seems daft since I did. I just wanted to ask peoples opinions as I know this can happen ..... something is sold and not fit for purpose or causes extra financial costs due to vet bills. This did NOT happen in my care and it is clear from pics she sent me during our first conversation about it he had it then. She has agreed from the pics she sent it was there before whilst in her care. Initially the first night I told her she was upset and said she was a bad keeper. That was before today of course. Some sellers are great and genuinely want to rectify things I am sad this has not happend this time. She told me he was sold to fund her moving home and she would not be refunding me . I had wanted to simply negotiate one more vet consultation which i felt was the very least I should have been offered and she blocked me on msn. If she wishes to refund a further £35 to cover his next vet visit I will consider the matter closed.

i dont think your feelings are unfair after all if something is advertised / sold to you to do a job it should do the job you buy it for be it a car a horse or a lizard it is after all a business transaction . it is sad that so many people just have a `pass on the problem ` attitude .
i suppose this is a problem with buying anything unseen , im seeking a crestie at the min (had to have mine put down ) and the local rep shop are asking £120 for babies ! so iv been looking to buy mail order for want of a better word but iv never bought this way before so im not sure . it is no consolation to you financially but at least you can take heart from the fact that he is now going to recieve the care he needs . hope he goes on ok . |

i think this is more than fair. the poor thing needs vet treatment, and it isn't fair that you should have to pay for it. most people would notice if their pet had something that obvious wrong with it. it's really childish of her to block you because you wanted a refund that you're well within your right to ask for. and to tell you to sell it on is just harsh. it's not fair to move an animal around so much because of something as little as £35.
i think Bowie would be a brilliant name for him, and that he's okay. could this be genetic, as if it is, you've also basically lost your reason for buying him... |

Right lets get one thing straight, Sarah-Jayne cared for Sparx evey day along with her other reps and didnt neglect him once.
Sparkle has been on msn contacting sarah direct and i have been privvy to a copy of the conversation. If you noticed there was an issue with the eye to begin with why did you buy it. In your msn convos all you appear to be interested in is breeding sparx well you do not buy reps for breeding if you aim to profit from them as that is cruel. I think you are being very nasty Sparkle, you did nothing but harass her about it once you recieved him and she genuinely didnt know about the eye problem. It's people like you that exagerate the truth that gives people a bad name as sarah has copperated with you fully all the way until this evening. She blocked you because you werent listening to the fact she was unaware of this problem when she sold him. Sarah-Jayne has and always will be a responsible herper that takes great care with her reps. just because she said she only fed him and cleaned him doesnt mean its neglect its prefectly suitable. Try listening to what Sarah Jayne has to say before you all judge this situation - Oh and Sparkle than you very much for reducing her to tears with your sharp tongue.

It is also your responsability to 100% check over a reptile before you buy it. I personally know Sarah and what you say is not true. She does care and didnt do this on purpose. She has said that she would help with vet fees but all you seem interested in is breeding. Which is wrong. You failed to ask any questions about his health or even ask for pics of all angles (hence the distance and why you had to courier) maybe you should accept you are at fault too. |

he wont be getting moved on im not selling him to recoup my losses , I would have reluctantly accepted a full refund but also one more vet consultaton fee which is the minimum he will need. It is almost as if she is saying that if he was still with her she wouldnt be willing to have vet care paid for either.. which is sad
