Default Rehome Vs Selling?

Im just wondering, if someone is "rehoming" and animal with a fee of say £40, isnt that just selling it? Why is it now just put in the selling classifieds for £40? I dont get it.

I know a fee is there to stop freebie hunters but when does it stop being rehoming and become selling.

A fine line, i would say that if it is your animal and not a rescue then it is being sold, if it is a rescue then the rehome fee is for a donation to cover costs.

I think people just think it sounds better to say they are rehoming and not selling.

the rehome fee applies when it is a rescue of some sort and they have taken the animal in and maybe got it seen by a vet etc and now the said animal is safe and well to be rehomed to a forever home and the fee covers some off the costs involved.

I posted about this before. There weren't many people backing me at the time.

You'll her a lot of "to stop freebie hunters". I also believe that puting it in the classifieds with a price tag (be it large/small/) will also stop the freebie hunters.

I'm all for genuine rescues asking for a fee, but private sales......should just be in the classifieds like everyone elses.

Yeah I think its to help sales in most cases. Its just a pet that they have decided to sell and suddenly its a rescue with a "set fee" to rival a pet shop.

If its a genuine rescue centre I have no problem with it as they do good work and vets bills are high.

I would tend to agree but then wouldnt people just be like 50p, or would their be a min donation... then its not really a donation is it? Im not sure.

Yeah I agree. Im suprised its not againsed the rules. It just confused me. I was like... Why is it rehoming now just because you dont want it and the "fee" is that of its normal price tag anyway.

Thanks for the help guys

IMO the only people that should be allowed to put a rehoming fee is those that are actual rehoming centres. Not sarah and dave down the road that 'rescued' a corn snake from people that didnt want it anymore and they decided to palm it off a few months down the road and get some of thier cash back from looking after it (even tho in reality it probably cost them £2 a week to look after)

When you rescue and rehome a rehoming fee is basically to ensure that people can afford to look after the animal, if they can't afford a fee of £30, how can they look after that animal?

People may think a rehoming fee of £30 is steep, but normally when i rehome I include a full or at least a partila setup with the animal, and in a lot of cases I've paid more out for the animal itself, vets fee's and care than I charge rehoming fee.

I dont have a problem with a rehome donation it stops shops and traders getting free things to sell on but some ask for close to what the animal is worth in the first place so it may as well just be a sale really.
