Not that ive not done it myself, not saying im not a hypocrite lol. but it does do my nut in when people have a 50 animal long list and then at the bottom it reads "offers please".

It seems to be used as an opportunity for a buyer who isn't really clued up on the market price to inadvertently pay more then its worth.

But if its me, unless its an animal I REALLY want, i will likely just leave it. Playing "guess the price" is a pain in the .

That being said, if something is listed as X price, only if its something likely to sell very soon will i pay full price. 90% of the time people not only expect to get something knocked off on these forums, and equally the seller should be aware that's what most buyers expect.

Anyway, think my point is there is no harm in a bit of haggling. But having to guess the price puts me off completely.

I don't have a problem with "Offers" if it's followed immediately by something like "in the region of £X". I do that myself - why make your buyer do more work to buy from you? If you want them to buy, make it EASY for them to buy if they want to offer you the price you're asking outright - and make it easy for them to get an idea of what sort of offers might be accepted if they don't want to pay your asking price.

I want to be able to scan down a list and get an idea of approximately what someone wants for the animal. If I have to ask how much it costs, I probably can't afford it. So I won't even bother.

Like has been said i dont know market price so am unaware if ill get ripped off or not,

and when people say make me an offer, what they usually mean is "i have a price in mind and im not moving untill you offer it"

offers are fine if the person is open to offers lol

Ok fair points from most of you, and a few of you have even gone on to show what you might expect (what i would expect) in a sale thread, in that an asking price is included and therefore helps the guessing game go so much smoother.

I never expect things to be at the exact price that i am willing to pay, and so i expect to have to haggle/bargain a price that i deem appropriate.

I do agree though that those words at the bottom of a list of things for sale "make me an offer"are the most dreaded words ever and do put you off when there is no guidance figure from which to go by.
However i also resent those sales that have "i want £x and nothing else will suffice".
In my opinion the absolute god-send is when a guidance price is offered, AND there is room for negotiation by means of "make me an offer".

same with me....i made a guy an offer for an item around 3months ago....we agreed and swapped numbers, i was due to go to his ( a 2hour journey mind!), i had taken the day off work that i didnt have and missd out on a days wages, and he called an hour before i was setting off and said that he's found another person who'd buy the animal for an extra 30quid on the price so if i was willing to pay an extra 25 and pay in cash then i'd get it. I told him to stick it up his fat ar*e.

Truth is, people like that plan these things, and are too thick to see that clevererer they think "hey, if she's that desperatre to get it today i'll add a little seed money to the agreed price and tell her someone else is interested"..... ar*seho**s.

Add "Or trades" and that's my favourite sort of advert... but with the caveat that it isn't just "what have you" if you are going to be really specific about what you'd trade for.

"Trades: W.H.Y." and you see half a dozen people offer X, Y, or Z and each thing is turned down gets on my nerves. Obviously the advertiser ISN'T interested in trading for "What have you" - the advertiser has something specific in mind.

If there's something you'd be delighted to trade for, TELL people that.
If you know in advance you don't want (or don't have room for, or can't afford to feed) X, Y, or Z, TELL people that.

For example, my most recent advert post listed:

"Or Trades...

Particularly looking for:
This morph of adult male corn
That morph of adult male corn
This species of snake, any age, sex (related species Y also acceptable)
This piece of equipment

Not interested in:
Any other corn morphs, ages or sexes
Any type of boa
Any type of python

If you have any other trades, please ask, worst I can say is 'no thanks'."

I do not reply to anything that does not have a price stated especially when the seller hides the price with make an offer by PM. Personally I see no reason why you shouldnt put a price and this leaves any potencial buyers to barter an offer or pay what you want for the item.

i avoid the `make me an offers` now too.

with me it usually goes that i see what i`m looking for,
google around to see what others are selling the same/similar for,
and pm my offer based on that.

and usually get an arsy reply along the lines of `i paid treble that for it last year and i want my money back`

if you want more than its worth, put the price on the ad so we dont all waste our time!

whats so difficult about setting your baseprice

Seriously its not an auction it's a sale, i dont get people who just say "Make me an offer" because half the time they dont know the price of what they are selling anyway and expect something close to petshop prices. To save time and arguements just put what your willing to sell it at
