It is annoying. I have had it happen to me twice this week!!
Both people had the courtesy to PM me though. Full apologies and letting me know that they had to pull out, as someone had come up with the cash before the arranged collection date.

I didn't get ratty with them though. Cash in the hand is always better than a "promise" of coming to collect. There is so many people nowadays that let others down. I have had numerous people "promising" to come at a certain time to collect something and they didn't turn up. In my eyes that has got to be more annoying. Especially if you have turned down other buyers in anticipation for the said person coming to buy!

If deposits are paid though, i believe the seller should then retract from selling to anyone else. At the end of the day then, if the buyer doesn't turn up, the seller keeps the deposit so not all is lost.

Its a real shame. There are more and more unreliable people turning up lately. Not to mention the scammers. Can't really blame people for looking after number one.
