What makes people think it's ok to string people along and waste their time?

I had someone inbox me last week saying they wanted an item i was selling but said they couldn't do a bank transfer until saturday morning. I agreed to hold it, saturday morning came and went but no payment, no inbox. I inboxed the user who said they were called into work so couldn't sort the money out, fair enough i thought so i agreed i would wait until monday when he said he would make payment at lunchtime. Monday came and went, still no payment and despite the fact that the user has been online, no contact either.

I'ts only a small value item i'm selling but this has really annoyed me, especially as, after agreeing to hold it, i had someone else inbox me wanting it. I don't understand why this user couldn't just turn around and say he didn't want it, or at least bother to contact me explaining why yet again he hadn't made payment.

My OH had a similar experience selling on here but held an item for over 2 weeks before she was given a string of lies as to why payment wasn't made.

I think some people need to remember manners when dealing with sales on this site.

If they agreed to purchase and pay then backed out with no contact or excuse leave them bad feedback so others are made aware and can avoid them.

People shout use the feedback system, this is why it's there.

If it's some one messing then I would leave neutral feedback with an explanation so others have an idea what the person is like.

Just make it short and brief, stick to the truth and facts.

i'm sorry but it's natural and should be expected when selling an item, this is why you shouldnt hold them. People change there mind, or have difficulty sorting out a payment method online.

I would only hold an item if you get a deposit otherwise this sort of thing will happen, just simply tell all parties intrested and its first come first served

Some people are very convincing when they make promises and you feel it only fair to give them a chance.

If I was holding something for a person with bad feedback I'd think twice.

The feedback is a very good indicator of a persons trust and reliability.

Why couldn't the user pm me saying they changed their mind or couldn't sort a payment? I did make this point is my original post.

the problem, i dont like with the feedback system is, you can give someone a deserved neg... then you get one back. its done on purpose to piss you off, and it does, but its not right.. I havent given dozens of negs due to this sort of thing

I have to agree, I was recently let down on here by a guy who wanted the Plasma I had up for sale.

He said he definetly wanted it and so we agreed a price and arranged a collection date so i put a stop to the sale, not just on here but 2 other sites.
Two nights before, i still had not heard what time he was coming to pick up, so I texted him to finalise the time and he texted me back to say his misus said he couldn't have it.

I really wanted to leave this guy bad feedback, but knew he would ruin mine if i did.

He then a few days later pm'd me and had the cheek to offer me £150 for it.

From now on I will no longer hold anything without a deposit.

It's a shame people can ruin the feedback system by telling lies in your cases then.

I think some people just enjoy wasting your time. I state I want a non refundable deposit by a set time (that I state not them) if they aint got the deposit money in about 48 hours of agreeing to buy then tough. Only if I know and have dealt with them before will I waiver this. You have to stick by the rules that work in your favour.
