Hi if the eye is still in its socket have you put ice or a bag of peas on it to take the swelling down as eyes when swollen unless swelling reduced can cause further problems. I would get it to a vet 1st thing but the ice would also take the pain away and help I think that would be better than nothing.

However if the eye isn't in the socket and is protruding then putting something on the eyeball will cause further pain.

I agree with that one but common sense would say not to do this maybe. thats why I said if in its socket. I hope it is as if its not the eye socket will be closed I am sure.... Vets is best

Forget taking her to the vet tomorrow - get her there NOW for frick sake! can you imagine the pain she must be in?? Why don't you pull one of your eyes out the socket and see how much it hurts???

She needs to go to a vet now.....the fact shes been suffering for hours....is beyond belief, she was found at 3pm and your only just posting on here now and you didnt take her to the vets when it was OPEN??

I totally agree. I know it's a 'rat' but it's in your care. You should have either humanely euthanised it or taken it straight to the vets. Would you like to be left for a night with an eye hanging out and your teeth poss' smashed in until the Dr's opened in the morning?

And lets hope you've taken all rocks out of your (burrowing) rats tanks.

this rat should have been taken to the vet as soon as it was found!!!!
