Care to explain why you left a defenseless animal to suffer for over 5 hours when you could've easily taken her to the vet? Entertainment perhaps or just mental and moral deficit? From your post it certainly seems that way. I hope someone on here knows your address and reports you both to the RSPCA. I think perhaps if there is such a place, you'll be the one rotting in hell sweetheart.

Why was she put to sleep? I know of many rats who've survived the loss of an eye, with antibiotics and pain relief.

I do hope she did actually see a vet, and wasn't just bumped off because it was cheaper/easier not to bother.

I would imagine a blow to the head that is hard enough to dislodge an eye would have caused brain damage to the rat.

Its a shame this turned into a slanging match as after all an animal was suffering, but to OP, you surely must have realised there would be no way you could do anything at home to ease its suffering except to take it to a vet asap.
I can understand you were asking for help but most animal lovers will get very emotional when asked about a problem with an obvious answer.

I'm sure you must be both feeling very bad about your poor rat, accidents do happen unfortunately.

sod their upset what about the rat with an eye hanging out ? if someone was looking after your son or daughter whom had a similar accident would you worry about their upset if they let them suffer in agony for hours while they sort advice on a forum? instead of calling an ambulance or taking them to hospital.
GOD WHAT HAPPENED TO COMMON SENSE??????

it's a rat... why take it to a vet?

a vet here would laugh at you... well... no, they'd get their $200 bucks and laugh after you left...

a $5 animal... a rat?

... sorry, but $200 bucks would buy a bushel of rats...

... vet's must be cheap there in the u.k.

here it costs $50 bucks to get them to say "yep! that's a rat" then the meter starts running... those $50 dollar tests...

never mind...
it's a 5 dollar animal... an animal people get paid to exterminate...

rats live in alleys... if the poor thing is messed up bad just put it down...

why spend the rent money on a rat?

That is possibly one of the most disgusting things i have ever heard

"its just a rat"

that rat still has feelings it still feels pain,

if you keep an animal you are required by law to get immediate vet treatment if needed

im shocked & disgusted: censor:
