i was just checking you hadnt mistyped thats all
i never usually comment on prices as its down to the seller what they set their price at but i do think the seller is aiming a little too high in this instance. i want some meerkats at some point though im expectin to get at least a pair for that

Bare in mind he is a proven male contact cardiff reptile centre for proof. We are prepared to take a bit less but not over the top less. Meerkats can sell for up to £2500. And the £100 cage comes with him including his bedding and his megaray basking light, leads/harnesses, water bottle etc.

A proven female maybe I could start to try and understand the price tag but not a male... And with all due respect and don't mean to sound rude but in which universe have they EVER sold meerkats at 2500?? They haven't ever been that price even when they're at their most popular!

There is no such thing as a "proven pair" in meerkat terms.

We have had dealings with these superb animals for years and meerkats do not rely on compatibility with each other. The only factor is environment and husbandry.
Firstly, both meerkats must believe themselves to be alphas, top kats, or they will not risk breeding.
Secondly, they must be very comfortable that they have an adequate food source to raise their young and sustain them as adults.
If they do mate, they must have somewhere private for the birth and first couple of weeks of rearing. If not, they can self abort, or kill them upon birth.
Finally, from about 2 weeks old, they will expect you to take turns at babysitting. If not, or they don't trust you to, they can kill the babies.

Oh, I forgot to mention. It must be warm when they mate. They will not mate during cold periods.

To talk about proven pairs is nonsense. It is the husbandry regime that is proven. Nothing else.

BTW, our babies go to zoos and the like at £700 and private owners at £600. Not the cheapest, I agree, but the health and upbringing is unquestionable - raised with children, dogs, cats and a skunk, they are bombproof tame.
