Default Boiga help...

... hi guys, just a quick question. I posted pictures up in the Sanke section but thought I would post the question on here as I noticed some others have & it might get a better response (I know not DWA!)... What subspecies do we think? Just to clarify for me

Sorry not the best pictures

I know it's a Mangrove snake lol

I meant Melanota, Gemmicincta .....?

Only posting this as I read the post from the first owner & people identlfied it as Melanota, however it has the spots infront of the eyes & on the neck so I thought it was just a Dendrophila? Am i right

Just to clarify I know it's a Mangrove snake, I was curious as to whether it was a Dendrophila Melanota etc but it is just Dendrophila....

I´d say melanota...

If its a juvie gemmi the banding will usually take on a reddish hue towards the tail... (and obviously fade as the animal ages)

Have look at Gernot Vogel´s website, on the left theres an option for a checklist of boiga species. Its good if you´re interested in other Boiga as well as mangroves..
www.gernot-vogel.de...

Hope this helped

Aye I have looked at this site, however it says about both the Dendrophila & Dendrophila Melanota "The belly is black and has some yellow coloration"
This guys doesn't look very black to me, the picture is there tell me what you think? He is a great snake & is amazing to look at no matter what his scientific name is.

He's great! Fed within five minutes of me putting the mouse on the branch. Seems to be settling nicely & doesn't mind coming out for a bit at all.. not taking the p*ss though. Hope you had a good holiday
